Treccia d’oro is a delicious cake from Crema, a town in Italy. It's a baked cake made with a special yeast dough and yummy candied fruit. Its name means "Golden Braid" because of its twisted shape!
How Treccia d'oro Began
The "Treccia d’oro" cake was created between 1937 and 1938. A talented pastry chef named Zironda invented it and showed it off at a fair called "Fiera di Padova." He even got a patent for his invention, which means he officially owned the idea for the cake. After that, he opened his own shop called “Pasticceria Zironda.”
A young apprentice named Vittorio Maccalli started working for Chef Zironda. When Zironda decided to retire, Vittorio Maccalli took over the business. Later, Maccalli opened his own bakery in Piazza Garibaldi in Crema, and he named it “Treccia d’oro.” The region of Lombardy in Italy has officially recognized "Treccia d’oro" as a special handmade product from Crema and the surrounding area, called the "Cremasco."
