The Church's Story
How the Church Began
The church community that built this building started a long time ago, in 1878. At first, the people met in their own homes. They did not have a special building for their services.
Two years later, in 1880, they built their very first church. It was located at the corner of Howard and Grove Street. Later, they sold this first building. For a while, they held their services in another church building.
Building the Current Church
The Trinity Evangelical Church community built the current church building in 1929. This is the building you see today. Over time, the church community changed its name. It became known as the Trinity Missionary Church. This was part of a larger group called the Missionary Church.
A New Chapter for the Building
In 2013, the Trinity Missionary Church moved to a new, bigger building. This new building is on the east side of Petoskey. After they moved, they sold their historic State Street building.
The building was bought by the New Life Anglican Church. This church is a new group that is part of the Anglican Church in North America. It belongs to the Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes.
What the Church Looks Like
The church building is a beautiful example of Classical Revival style. It is made of brick and has two and a half stories. The roof is shaped like a triangle, which is called a gable roof.
Front Entrance Details
The front of the church has a special part that sticks out. This part holds a large window with many small glass panes. The window is shaped like a round arch. Above this window, there are four decorative archways that are filled in.
Side Views
This special design with the large window and arches is also seen on the sides of the church. Other windows along the sides are rectangular. They also have many small glass panes.
