Tucker's Luck was a British TV show made by the BBC from 1983 to 1985. It was a spin-off from another popular school drama called Grange Hill.
The show focused on Peter "Tucker" Jenkins, a character played by Todd Carty, who was very popular in Grange Hill. This new series followed Tucker's adventures after he left school.
The story of Tucker's Luck showed Tucker and his friends, Alan Humphries (George Armstrong) and Tommy Watson (Paul McCarthy), as they tried to find jobs and deal with life outside of school. They faced the challenges of the "real world."
What Happened in the Show?
Three series of Tucker's Luck were made. In the third series, Tommy was no longer part of the group because his character had joined the Navy.
Some actors from Grange Hill also appeared in Tucker's Luck. For example, Linda Slater played Susi MacMahon, Alan's old school girlfriend, in the first series. Michelle Herbert appeared as Trisha Yates, Tucker's old school rival, in the very last episode. Peter McNamara played Ralph Passmore, who was first Tucker's enemy and later his friend.
Even with these familiar faces, Tucker's Luck was never as popular as Grange Hill.
New Characters Join In
In the third and final series, new family members for Tucker were introduced. His younger sister, Rhona, who was eight years old, appeared for the first time. Also, Tucker's older brother, Barry, who Tucker had often mentioned in Grange Hill as "our kid," finally appeared in the show.
