Turín is a small town in El Salvador. It is located in the Ahuachapán Department. A municipality is like a local government area.
Geography
Turín is located in a beautiful part of El Salvador. It is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) west of a town called Atiquizaya. The capital city of the department, Ahuachapán, is 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) to the east. Another important town, Chalchuapa, is 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) west. Near Chalchuapa, you can find the ancient Maya site of Tazumal.
The main highway, CA 13, passes through Turín. There is also a railway line that connects Santa Ana and Ahuachapán.
Notable people
- Lilian Mercedes Letona (Commander Clelia, 1954–1983) was born in Turín. She was a member of the FMLN. This group worked for big changes in El Salvador. She was known for her role in their efforts.
