Víctor Domingo Silva Endeiza (born May 12, 1882, in Tongoy, Chile – died August 20, 1960, in Santiago) was a very important Chilean writer. He was a poet, a journalist, and wrote plays. His mother's family came from the Basque region.

Early Life and First Steps
Víctor Domingo Silva grew up in a family that loved books and learning. This helped him develop a passion for writing. In 1906, he became a diputado, which is like a member of parliament. He represented the areas of Copiapó, Freirina, and Chañaral in the Chilean Congress.
While he was a diputado, Silva started sharing his poems. He published them in El Mercurio, a well-known newspaper in Chile.
The National Poet
People often called Víctor Domingo Silva "el poeta nacional" (the national poet). This was because he wrote many poems about Chile and its history. One of his most famous patriotic poems is called La Bandera, which means "The Flag."
Diplomatic Work Abroad
In 1928, Víctor Domingo Silva started working as a diplomat. This means he represented Chile in other countries. He was first sent to Patagonia, a region in Argentina. There, he helped create the Chilean province of Aisén.
Later, he became Chile's general consul in Madrid, Spain. He lived there for many years. Finally, in 1948, he returned to Chile.
A National Award
In 1954, Víctor Domingo Silva received a very special honor. He won Chile's National Prize for Literature. This award recognized his amazing contributions to Chilean writing.
