The Verona Apartments is a historic apartment building. It is located in Detroit, Michigan, in an area known as the Cass Corridor. The building has a main section in the middle. It also has two side parts, like wings.

This special building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. This list helps protect important old buildings across the country. Today, a company called Cass and Ferry Apartments owns and rents out the apartments.

Building History

The Verona Apartments were built a long time ago, in 1896. A company from Detroit called Malcomson and Higginbotham designed and built them.

When it was first built, the building had 16 very fancy apartments. These were called "luxury suites." Later, in the 1930s, more people started buying their own homes. This meant fewer people wanted to rent large, fancy apartments.

So, in 1945, the building was changed. It was divided into 26 smaller apartments. This made them more suitable for the people looking for homes at that time.

Building Style and Look

The Verona Apartments have a unique look. The building has a five-story main part in the center. On each side, there are three-story wings.

The bottom part of the building is made of stone. The main part is built with bricks. These bricks were originally orange, but now they are painted gray.

The main entrance has a curved archway. There is another similar arch on the fourth floor. The name of the building, "Verona," is carved into the arch above the entrance.

You can see many decorative details on the outside of the building. For example, there are fancy designs above the first-floor windows. There are also curved parts next to the entrance. Plus, there are special designs set into the brickwork above the first and fifth floors.
