What is the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame?
The Virginia Sports Hall of Fame is a special place that honors people who have achieved great things in sports. It's like a museum, but it also has a mission to teach and inspire. The Hall celebrates athletes, coaches, and even journalists. It also recognizes others who have helped sports grow in Virginia.
Where is the Hall of Fame Located?
From 2005 to 2017, the Hall of Fame had a museum building in Portsmouth. To save money and get more support, they changed how they worked in 2017. They closed the building in Portsmouth. Now, their main office is in Town Center in Virginia Beach.
They moved many of their cool exhibits and the "Hall of Honor" (which lists everyone inducted) into office and hotel lobbies. These are in the popular Town Center area. You can explore these displays for free! It's part of a fun walking tour called "Walk the Hall." The Hall of Fame also hosts many sports events around Town Center. Their website is now www.VaSportsHOF.com.
How Do People Get Into the Hall?
The Hall of Fame has a special group of leaders from all over Virginia. This group helps decide who gets honored. There's also an "Honors Court." This court looks at suggestions for new members. They announce who will be inducted each December.
