Who's Who in Black Canada facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Who's Who in Black Canada is a special website that celebrates and shares the stories of amazing and successful Black Canadians. It shows what they have achieved, both in the past and today.

How the Project Started

In 1999, a woman named Dawn Williams noticed something important. She saw that there weren't many books in Canada that showed how much Black Canadians had achieved. She wanted to highlight the great things people of African descent had done.

So, Dawn spent three years doing a lot of research. She gathered information to create a big picture of successful Black Canadians from every part of the country. She even made sure the information was available in both English and French.

In 2002, Dawn published the first book called Who's Who in Black Canada. It had more than 500 profiles of inspiring people. She then published a second edition of the book in 2004.

Moving to the Internet

In 2010, a design company called The Ricardo McRae Agency talked to Dawn. They wanted to put all the amazing stories from her books online. After some discussions, Dawn agreed, and she gave the company the rights to share the book's content on the internet.

On August 1, 2010, the website www.WhosWhoinBlackCanada.com officially launched! This made it much easier for everyone to learn about these incredible Canadians.

Later, on January 15, 2015, the website changed its name and focus slightly. It became Black In Canada, continuing to highlight Black excellence.
