A Look Back: The Mill's History

Some parts of Wright's Flour Mill are very old, dating back to 1789. These include the brick house where the miller lived and the offices. There has been a mill on this spot for a very long time, possibly even since the 1500s!

In 1870, a man named George Reynolds Wright took full control of the mill. For many years, the mill used the power of water from a small stream connected to the River Lea. This water turned large millstones to grind flour.

However, in 1913, something big changed. A new place called the King George V Reservoir was being built nearby. Because of this construction, the water that powered the mill was cut off. So, the mill had to change how it worked. Its machines were then updated to run on electricity. Since then, the mill has continued to improve and modernize.

Wright's Mill Today

Even today, the Wright family still owns and runs the business. This makes Wright's Flour Mill the only family-owned flour mill in all of London! It continues to produce flour, just as it has for centuries.
