Xavier Albó Corrons was a Jesuit priest, a linguist, and an anthropologist. He was born in Spain but became a citizen of Bolivia. He spent his life studying and helping the native people and farmers in Bolivia.

About Xavier Albó

Xavier Albó was born in a town called La Garriga in Catalonia, Spain, on November 4, 1934. In 1951, he joined the Society of Jesus, which is a group of Catholic priests and brothers often called Jesuits.

Moving to Bolivia

In 1952, when he was just 18, Xavier moved to Bolivia. He loved the country so much that he later became a Bolivian citizen. Bolivia honored him with its highest award, the Order of the Condor of the Andes, on April 6, 2016. This award is given to people who have done great things for the country.

Helping Farmers and Communities

Xavier Albó was very dedicated to helping people. In 1971, he helped start an organization called the Center for Research and Promotion of Farmers (Centro de Investigación y Promoción del Campesinado, CIPCA). This group works to support and improve the lives of farmers and rural communities in Bolivia. Xavier was the first director of CIPCA, leading the organization until 1976.
