Ángel Acebes Paniagua (born 3 July 1958) is a Spanish politician. He has held important roles in the Spanish government, including being a minister and a member of parliament.
Early Life and Learning
Ángel Acebes studied law at the University of Salamanca. This means he learned about laws and how the legal system works.
Working in Politics
Ángel Acebes became a member of the Spanish parliament in 1996. He represented the area of Avila for the People's Party, which is a right-wing political group. He helped his party form a government by getting support from smaller parties.
Ministerial Roles
From 1999 to 2002, Acebes served as the Minister of Justice. In this role, he was in charge of the country's legal system.
Later, from 2002 to 2004, he became the Minister of the Interior. This job meant he was responsible for national security and the police force. He was the Interior Minister when the Madrid train bombings happened in 2004.
Other Activities
After his time as a minister, Ángel Acebes joined the board of directors at Iberdrola. This is a large energy company. He has been an independent member of their board since 2020.
