Political Career
Becoming a Member of Parliament
Ángel Acebes became a member of the Spanish parliament in 1996. He represented the area of Avila for the People's Party, a big political group in Spain. He helped his party get enough support from other smaller parties to form a government.
Serving as a Minister
Acebes held two important positions as a minister. From 1999 to 2002, he was the Minister of Justice. In this role, he was in charge of the country's legal system. After that, from 2002 to 2004, he served as the Minister of the Interior. This job meant he was responsible for national security and the police force.
Challenges as Interior Minister
During his time as Interior Minister, a very sad event happened in Spain. This was the Madrid train bombings in 2004. These attacks were a big challenge for the country and for Acebes in his role.
