Ähtäri (Swedish: Etseri) is a town and municipality in Finland. It is located in the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The town has a population of 5,316 people (as of 31 December 2023).
Ähtäri covers an area of 910.87 square kilometres (351.69 sq mi). A big part of this area, 105 km2 (41 sq mi), is water. The town is about 83 kilometres (52 mi) southeast of Seinäjoki. The main language spoken in Ähtäri is Finnish.

What Makes Ähtäri Special?
Ähtäri is well-known for its amazing zoo. It's a popular place for families to visit. The town also has a unique hotel called Mesikämmen. This hotel was designed by Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen. What's cool is that part of the hotel is built right inside a rock!
The biggest lake in the area is called Ähtärinjärvi. It's a great spot for enjoying nature. There is also an old, small factory in Ähtäri called Vääräkosken Pahvi. It makes cardboard.
