Mai Hồng Ngọc, born on October 13, 1988, is a famous Vietnamese singer. She is best known by her stage name, Đông Nhi. She went to Marie Curie High School in Ho Chi Minh City.

Đông Nhi's early music projects were very successful. These include The First Step (2009) and The Singer (2012). Her songs like Sau Moi Giac Mo (2012) and I Wanna Dance (2013) also won many awards.

Throughout her career, Đông Nhi has received many honors. She won Favorite Female Singer at the Zing Music Awards six times. She was also named Asia's Best Vietnamese Singer at the MAMA awards. In 2016, she won South East Asia's Best Singer at the MTV EMAs. She has also been recognized by the Big Apple Music Awards (BAMA).

In 2015, Đông Nhi won the first season of The Remix. She also became a coach on popular TV shows. She coached The Voice Kids of Vietnam in 2016. In 2017, she was a coach on The Voice Vietnam. Many big brands have worked with her. These include Samsung, Pepsi, and KFC.

Đông Nhi's Life and Music Journey

Early Life and Starting Music (1988–2007)

Mai Hồng Ngọc was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. When she was two, her family moved to Ho Chi Minh City. Đông Nhi loved music from a young age. She won many awards while in high school.

She started studying at Ho Chi Minh National University. However, she decided to leave to focus on her music dream. She tried out for many singing contests, like Vietnam Idol, but didn't win. Still, she was signed by a music company called NewGen.

At that time, teen pop music was very popular. Her songs "Chang Baby Milo" and "Du quay tinh yeu" became big hits. They were played often on the radio. But NewGen thought her style didn't fit the trend. They chose to support another singer instead. Đông Nhi was dropped from the company after a few months.

First Songs and Big Success (2008–2011)

In 2008, Đông Nhi released her first song, "Khóc" (Cry), on her own. This song became a small hit. It helped her get noticed and sign with Tinu Production Company. She started making more teen-pop songs, which made her even more famous.

She also acted in some movies and TV shows. These included Giải cứu thần chết and Thứ ba học trò. In 2009, Đông Nhi announced she was taking a break. There were rumors she was pregnant, but she said they were not true.

She returned with her first official album, The First Step. This album won the Favorite Album Award at the HTV Awards. It also made it into the top 10 at the Zing Music Awards. In the same year, her song "Từng Thuộc Về Nhau" became a huge hit. People loved the song and gave it great reviews.

In September 2011, Đông Nhi released her EP The Singer. She worked with many popular Vietnamese musicians on this project. She won Best Female Singer at the Zing Music Awards. The Singer was also named one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year.

Gaining More Recognition (2012–2013)

In early 2012, Đông Nhi lent her voice to the movie The Lorax. She worked with TV host Thanh Bach on this project. In April, she released her music video for "Sau Mỗi Giấc Mơ". Most of the video was filmed underwater.

The song and video quickly became number one on many Vietnamese music charts. Because of this success, Đông Nhi won Favorite Female Singer at the Zing Music Awards again. Later in 2012, she held a small concert with the cast of Bo tu hoan hao. In 2013, her music video for "Tìm Về" was the first in Vietnam to use 3D technology.

In early 2013, she hosted Dancing with the Stars. She also started working with a new manager, Ong Cao Thang's 6th Sense Entertainment. Her music style changed, and she found great success with EDM. She also continued to have hits with pop songs like "Tim Về" and "Xoa". She won several awards and gained a large group of fans. Many brands also chose her to promote their products.

I Wanna Dance and The Remix Success (2014–2015)

In 2014, Đông Nhi released her second album, I Wanna Dance. This album featured pop-electronic songs. The main song, "I Wanna Dance", topped music charts in Vietnam. It also did well on Chinese and Spanish charts. The song won Favorite Pop - Electronic Song at the Zing Music Awards 2014. Đông Nhi also won Favorite Female Singer for the fourth time.

At the 19th Golden Apricot Blossom Awards, she won Favorite Ballad Singer. In September, she was announced as a judge on the show Vo Chong Minh Hat. On March 28, 2015, she was an official judge for the Toa Sang Tai Nang Chau A contest. On April 5, 2015, Đông Nhi won Favorite Female Singer at the HTV Awards.

In early February 2015, she won Favorite Ballad Singer at the 20th Golden Apricot Blossom Awards. In early 2015, she competed in the first season of The Remix. She won the competition on May 3. During the show, she performed her song "Stop Loving You". This song immediately became number one on many music charts.

On May 15, she released the music video for "Vi Ai Vi Anh". The video quickly got over one million views. It also topped the Zing MP3 chart. The song won Music Video of the Year at the Zing Music Awards 2015. Đông Nhi also won Favorite Singer for the fifth time. "Vi Ai Vi Anh" won Best Song Award at the Yan Vpop Awards 2015.

On May 16, she was a judge on Ngoi Sao Phuong Nam. On May 31, 2015, she returned to Vietnam Idol as a guest. She performed "Hot" at the first night gala. On December 2, Đông Nhi became the youngest Vietnamese singer to win a Mnet Asian Music Award. On December 14, she released the music video for "Boom Boom".

Coaching, Live Show, and More Success (2016–2017)

On January 22, 2016, Đông Nhi won Favorite Ballad Female Singer for the third time in a row. This was at the 21st Golden Apricot Blossom Awards. She was also named one of the Top 10 Artists of the Year. On January 25, Forbes Vietnam included her in their "30 Under 30" list.

In the fourth season of The Voice Kids of Vietnam, Đông Nhi coached with her boyfriend, Ông Cao Thắng. On October 2, Đông Nhi held her first big live concert in eight years. It was called It's Showtime - Dệt Giấc Mơ Bay. On October 8, she won Best Vietnamese Female Artist from the Big Apple Music Awards 2016. On November 6, 2016, she won Best Asian Artist at the 2016 MTV EMAs.

On January 3, 2017, Đông Nhi became a coach on the fourth season of The Voice of Vietnam. She coached alongside other famous singers like Thu Minh and Tóc Tiên. In the same month, Đông Nhi won Artist of the Year at the Yan Vpop 20 Awards. She also won Favorite Female Artist at the Zing Music Awards for the sixth time.

On February 2, she released the music video for "Cam On" (We belong together). This video was filmed in Japan. Also in February, she released the music video for "Love Me Too". This video was sponsored by Samsung. On September 24, she performed "Xin Anh Dung" and "Bad Boy" at the Asia Song Festival 2017.

On October 5, she released the music video for "Sao chang the vi em". This was a ballad song, and the video was filmed in Taiwan. The next month, she released the music video for "Co Ba Sai Gon". This song was written by Only C and became very popular with young people.

Ten on Ten Album (2018–Present)

On October 4, 2018, Đông Nhi performed at the 2nd ASEAN - Japan Music Festival 2018. She represented Vietnam at this event. She performed a new version of "Nụ cười Việt Nam" and her song "Xin lỗi anh quá phiền".

For her third studio album, Ten on Ten, Đông Nhi released several music videos. These included "Xin lỗi anh quá phiền", "Giả vờ say", and "Gọi em đi". On December 9, the album was released. It quickly became number one on the Vietnamese iTunes chart.

Personal Life

In November 2019, Đông Nhi married singer Ông Cao Thắng. They had a beautiful wedding with many famous guests. The next year, in October, she gave birth to their first daughter, named Winnie. In August 2024, the couple welcomed another daughter.
