History of the Regiment
How the Regiment Started
The 153rd (Highland) Transport Regiment began in 1967. It was formed from another group called the 433 (Forth) Regiment. When it first started, it had three main sections. These sections were called transport squadrons. A squadron is a smaller group of soldiers.
Adding More Squadrons
In 1969, a new squadron was added. It was called 239 Squadron. Many soldiers from an older unit joined this new squadron. This older unit was known as The Fife and Forfar Yeomanry/Scottish Horse.
Royal Visit
A very important person visited the regiment in 1982. This was Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester. Her visit was a special event for the soldiers.
Changes Over Time
In 1992, 239 Squadron changed again. It helped to bring back a part of The Scottish Yeomanry. This shows how military units can change and adapt.
Joining Forces
The 153rd (Highland) Transport Regiment did not stay on its own forever. In 1993, it joined with another regiment. This other group was the 154 (Lowland) Transport Regiment. Together, they formed a new, bigger unit. This new unit was called The Scottish Transport Regiment. It became part of the Royal Logistic Corps.
