1880 United States Census facts for kids
The United States Census of 1880 was the tenth time the United States counted all its people. This important count was done by the Census Bureau in June 1880. It was a special census because it was the first time that women were allowed to work as enumerators, which means they helped collect the information from households. The person in charge of this census was Francis Amasa Walker.
The 1880 census found that the total population of the United States was 50,189,209 people. This was a big jump, showing a 30.2 percent increase from the previous count in 1870.
