The 1956–57 Eredivisie was the very first season of the Eredivisie, which is the top football league in the Netherlands. This exciting season saw AFC Ajax win the championship. The teams that played in this first Eredivisie were chosen from the best teams of the previous season's Netherlands Football League Championship.

About the 1956–57 Eredivisie Season

The 1956–57 Eredivisie was a big moment for Dutch football because it was the start of a new, professional league. Eighteen teams competed to become the first-ever Eredivisie champions. Each team played 34 matches throughout the season, trying to score as many goals as possible and win games.

Who Won the League?

AFC Ajax showed great skill and teamwork to become the champions of this historic first Eredivisie season. They won 22 of their 34 games, drawing 5 and losing only 7. This amazing performance earned them 49 points, which was enough to secure their 9th national title overall. Because they won, AFC Ajax also got to play in the 1957–58 European Cup, a big competition for the best teams in Europe.
