In the 1957–58 Eerste Divisie, 32 football teams took part. These teams were divided into two main groups. Each group had 16 teams. The teams played against each other to see who would finish at the top of their group.
Group A: The Teams and Winners
Group A had 16 teams competing. At the end of the season, Willem II and FC Dordrecht both had the same number of points. Because of this tie, they had to play an extra match to decide the winner of Group A.
Who Won Group A?
Willem II played against FC Dordrecht in a special play-off match. Willem II won this match with a score of 3–1. This meant that Willem II became the champion of Eerste Divisie Group A for that season.
At the end of the season, one team from Group A, HFC EDO, finished last. They were moved down to a lower league called the Tweede Divisie.
Group B: The Teams and Winners
Group B also had 16 teams. The team that won Group B was SHS. They played very well throughout the season.
The winner of Group B, SHS, was promoted to the highest football league in the Netherlands. This league is called the Eredivisie. This was a big achievement for them!
Just like in Group A, one team from Group B finished last. This team was Xerxes. They were moved down to the Tweede Divisie for the next season.
