The 1981 Atlantic hurricane season officially started on June 1, 1981, and ended on November 30, 1981. However, one storm actually formed earlier, on May 6. This was a very busy hurricane season. Some of the most important storms were Hurricane Dennis, Tropical Depression Eight, and Hurricane Katrina. Hurricane Dennis and Tropical Depression Eight caused the most damage. Hurricane Katrina was the only storm that caused deaths that year.
