1991 Georgian independence referendum facts for kids
On March 31, 1991, a special vote called a referendum took place in the country of Georgia. At that time, Georgia was part of the Soviet Union. The people of Georgia were asked a very important question: "Do you support Georgia becoming an independent country again, following the declaration made on May 26, 1918?" This vote was about whether Georgia should break away from the Soviet Union and become its own country once more.
