The 1992 Pacific hurricane season was a very busy time for storms in the Pacific Ocean. It was the most active season ever recorded! A total of 27 storms formed, with 10 of them becoming major hurricanes.
The most famous storm was Hurricane Iniki. It caused a lot of damage to the Hawaiian Islands. Other hurricanes like Lester, Virgil, Winifred, and Orlene also hit land. They caused some deaths but were not as destructive as Iniki. Hurricanes Darby and Tropical Storm Agatha brought heavy rains to Mexico. They caused damage even though they did not make landfall. Two other interesting storms were Hurricane Ekeka and Tropical Storm Hali. They formed very early in the year, in January and March.

A hurricane season is a period when many tropical storms form. The 1992 Pacific hurricane season was special because it had so many storms. It started on January 26, 1992, and ended on November 22, 1992. During this time, 27 tropical storms formed. This was a new record for the Pacific Ocean.
Record-Breaking Storms
Out of the 27 storms, 15 became hurricanes. Even more impressively, 10 of these hurricanes became "major" hurricanes. A major hurricane is a very strong storm with high winds. This number of major hurricanes was also a record for the Pacific. The strongest storm of the season was named Tina.

Hurricane Iniki was the most well-known storm of 1992. It caused billions of dollars in damage. This hurricane hit the Hawaiian Islands very hard. It was a very powerful storm that affected many people.
Other Important Hurricanes
