What is 1 Journal Square?
The 1 Journal Square project is a plan to build a huge complex of buildings. It will have two very tall towers. These towers will be built on top of a 12-story base building.
How Tall Will It Be?
Each of the two main towers will be 52 stories high. They are planned to reach about 710 feet into the sky. This makes them very noticeable in the Jersey City skyline.
What Will Be Inside?
The project will have many different parts. It will include 1,723 homes for people to live in. There will also be 41,000 square feet of space for shops and businesses. A large parking garage with 883 spaces is also part of the plan.
How the Project Changed
The idea for 1 Journal Square has changed over time. An earlier design was approved by different architects. However, construction never started on that version. The property was later sold in 2015.
Working with the City
In 2019, the developers and Jersey City had some disagreements. They later reached an agreement. As part of this, the developers agreed to invest $2.5 million. This money will help support local art projects in the city. This agreement helped the project get approved.
Building for the Future
The current plan for 1 Journal Square will be built in two main steps. Besides the buildings, the project also includes improving the area outside the Journal Square PATH station. This will make the public space look nicer for everyone.
