Muhammad Abdul Haq Ansari (born September 1, 1931 – died October 3, 2012) was a wise Islamic scholar from India. He was the leader (called 'Amir') of a group in India called Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) from 2003 to 2007. He was also a member of their main advisory group.
Abdul Haq Ansari was in charge of a special school in Kerala, India, called Al Jamia Al Islamia. He wrote important books, like 'Sufism and Shariah'. This book helped connect different ideas in Islamic thought. He also wrote about the ideas of a philosopher named Mishkawayh. He translated some important writings of Ibn Taymiyyah into English. Another helpful book he wrote was 'Learning the Language of Quran'. It's a great guide for people learning to read the Quran in English. In New Delhi, he started the Islami Academy. This academy helped students from regular schools learn about Islamic studies.
His Education
Abdul Haq Ansari first studied at Darsgah Islami in Rampur. He then went to Aligarh Muslim University. There, he earned his bachelor's degree in 1957. He continued his studies in philosophy, getting his master's degree in 1959. He completed his PhD in philosophy in 1962. Later, in 1972, he earned another master's degree from Harvard University in the U.S. This degree focused on different religions and their beliefs.
His Work and Teaching
Abdul Haq Ansari was a professor at Vishwa Bharti University from 1965 to 1978. He led the department for Arabic, Persian, and Islamic Studies. He also taught Islamic Studies in other countries. He taught at Sudan University (1978-1981), Dhahran University (1982-1985), and Imam Muhammad Bin Saud University in Riyadh (1985-1995).
