Abdul Kader Keïta (born August 6, 1981) is a former professional footballer from Ivory Coast. He played as a winger, which is a player who plays on the sides of the field. Keïta also played for his country, the Ivory Coast national football team, from 2000 to 2012.

Kader Keïta's Football Journey

Kader Keïta, also known as 'Popito', started his football career in his home country. He played for a club called Africa Sports. After that, he moved to Tunisia to play for Etoile du Sahel.

Playing for Clubs

Keïta then played in the United Arab Emirates for Al Ain and in Qatar for Al Sadd. In 2005, he moved to France to join the Lille team, which plays in Ligue 1, a top French football league.

Time at Lyon

On May 31, 2007, Lyon showed interest in Keïta. They officially signed him from Lille on June 16, 2007. The transfer fee for Keïta was €18 million. A transfer fee is the money one club pays to another to get a player. He played for Lyon for two seasons. During this time, he played 52 matches and scored 5 goals.

Playing for Galatasaray

On July 2, 2009, Keïta joined Galatasaray, a Turkish club. He signed a three-year contract. He scored his first goal for Galatasaray in a Europa League qualification match. This is a competition for European football clubs.

He scored important goals for Galatasaray. For example, he scored a late goal in a Europa League match against Atlético Madrid to make it a 1–1 draw. He also helped his team win matches by scoring and assisting goals. An assist is when a player helps set up a goal for a teammate.

Return to Al Sadd

In July 2010, Keïta went back to his former club, Al Sadd SC in Qatar. He continued to play well for them.

In 2011, Al Sadd reached the AFC Champions League Final. This is a big competition for clubs in Asia. Keïta scored a goal in the final match. His team, Al Sadd, won the championship after a penalty shootout. Keïta was named the best player of the match. He left Al Sadd at the end of the 2011–12 season.

International Matches

Kader Keïta had a great career playing for his country, the Ivory Coast national football team. He played 72 matches for them. These matches are called "caps." He represented Ivory Coast in two FIFA World Cups, in 2006 and 2010. He also played in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. In 2012, his team finished as runner-up in the Africa Cup of Nations.

World Cup Moment

During the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, Keïta was involved in a much-talked-about moment. This happened during a group game against Brazil. In this incident, the Brazilian player Kaká received a second yellow card and was sent off the field. This decision was quite controversial and led to many discussions among football fans and commentators.

Personal Life

Kader Keïta's older brother, Fadel Keïta, was also a professional footballer. He also played for the Ivory Coast national team.
