Abdul Qadim Haqq (born December 24, 1968) is a famous American artist. He is also known as Haqq or The Ancient. He grew up in Detroit, Michigan.
Haqq creates amazing artwork for music. His art is on records by Detroit techno artists. Some of these artists include Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson. He has been making art for techno music since 1989. His unique art inspires fans all over the world.
Haqq started a company called Third Earth Visual Arts. His art often shows futuristic ideas. He loves fantasy art and time travel. He was inspired by watching sci-fi movies and Japanese cartoons as a kid. Shows like Speed Racer and Robotech were his favorites.
When he was young, Haqq often stayed home because of asthma. This gave him lots of time to watch sci-fi shows. These shows made him want to create his own stories and drawings. He studied graphic illustration at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. After finishing school in 1991, he became a full-time futurist artist.
Haqq's Artistic Journey
Haqq started his professional art career in October 1989. His first big project was for Derrick May's record label, Transmat. Later that year, he also met Mike Banks and the group Underground Resistance (UR).
Art Shows and Exhibitions
Haqq's art has been shown in special exhibits. One notable show was with Japanese artist Shinichirō Watanabe. This exhibit was called "Abdul Qadim Haqq & Shinichiro Watanabe Joint Exhibition." It took place in the Netherlands and Tokyo, Japan, in 2010.
Books by Haqq
In 2014, Haqq released a book called 1989–2014: 25 Years of Techno Art. This book features his illustrations and photos. It shows important work from the Detroit techno scene. It also includes art for artists like Drexciya. The book is a detailed record of Detroit techno history.
Another art book by Haqq is "The Technanomicron." This 30-page book is titled "The Rise of the Technolords." It has cool, abstract drawings of famous Detroit artists. It also includes short stories written in Haqq's unique sci-fi style.
Haqq has created a lot of artwork for many techno artists. He has worked with labels like Transmat and Planet E. He made the well-known "Intergalactic Beats" album cover.
