Absheron Rayon, also spelled as Apsheron, is a special area in Azerbaijan. It's like a district or a region. There is also a place called the Absheron Peninsula, but it's important to know they are not the same place. The Rayon is a bit different from the Peninsula.
Absheron was created in 1963 by the Soviet government. This area is full of interesting historical sites.

Absheron Rayon has many old and important places to see. These sites tell us about the people who lived here long ago.
Ancient Tools and Buildings
- In a village called Aşağı Güzdək, you can find old farming tools. These tools are from the 1800s.
- The village of Goradile has a mosque built in the 1800s. It is called the Abdurrahman mosque.
- Even older mosques from the 1700s are in Məmmədli village.
Old Wells and Tombs
- People in Absheron used to get their water from ancient wells. Some of these wells are still used today in Aşağı Güzdək and Xırdalan.
- You can also find very old tombs in Absheron. These tombs are from the 700s to the 1700s. They are located in places like Fatmai, Digah, Masazir, Hökməli, and Saray.
What Does Absheron Mean?
The name Absheron comes from two old words: 'ap shuran'. These words mean 'place of salty water' in an ancient Iranian Azeri language. This name makes sense because the area has many salty lakes and springs.
