Early Life and Artistic Journey

Achille Vianelli was born in a town called Porto Maurizio in Italy. When he was a child, his family moved to Otranto. His father worked there as a consul for the French government, which is like a representative from one country living in another.

In 1819, Vianelli moved to Naples. He started working at the Royal Topographic Office. This is where he met another important artist, Giacinto Gigante.

Learning to Paint

Vianelli and Gigante began their art training together. They first learned from an artist named Jakob Wilhelm Hüber. Later, they studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under a famous painter named Pitloo. These teachers helped Vianelli develop his unique style.

Important Works and Connections

Vianelli, along with Gigante and others, created a series of special prints called lithographs. These were part of a book titled Viaggio pittorico nel Regno delle Due Sicilie (which means Picturesque Journey in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies). This project was published between 1829 and 1834.

In 1848, Vianelli moved to Benevento, where he continued to draw and paint. He became part of the School of Posillipo, a group of landscape painters known for their realistic and beautiful views of the Naples area.

Vianelli also had strong family ties to other artists. He married Giacinto Gigante's sister. His own son, Alberto Vianelli, also became a landscape painter and later moved to Paris. Achille's sister, Flora, married a German artist named Theodore Witting, and their son, Gustavo Witting, also became a landscape painter.

Achievements and Recognition

Achille Vianelli was recognized for his artistic talent. He was made a knight of the Order of Francesco I of the Two Sicilies. This was a special honor given by the king. He was also an honorary professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples.

Later Life

Achille Vianelli passed away in Benevento on April 2, 1894.
