Becoming a Pianist
Adam Harasiewicz was born in a town called Chodziez in Poland. When he was young, he first tried learning the violin for two months. But then, at the age of 10, he started playing the piano.
He was very good at it! By the time he was 15, he won first prize in a music competition in Rzeszów. When he turned 18, he went to a special music school in Kraków, which is now called the Academy of Music in Kraków. There, he studied piano with a great teacher named Zbigniew Drzewiecki.
A Master of Chopin
Adam Harasiewicz studied with his teacher for six years. He became especially good at playing the music of Chopin, a very famous Polish composer. People said he had amazing piano skills and a wonderful way of expressing the music. He played with a special style that showed he truly understood Polish Romantic music.
Winning the Chopin Competition
In 1955, Adam Harasiewicz won first prize at the V International Chopin Piano Competition. This is a very important competition for pianists who play Chopin's music. Winning it made him famous around the world.
After winning, he lived in Belgium for some years. Later, he moved to Austria, where he settled down.
Judging Future Stars
Even after becoming a famous pianist, Adam Harasiewicz continued to be involved with the Chopin Competition. He was asked to be a judge several times. He helped decide who the next winners would be in the 1995, 2010, 2015, and 2021 competitions.

Adam Harasiewicz has recorded many albums. He has recorded all of the musical pieces written by Chopin. He has also recorded a lot of music by another Polish composer named Szymanowski. These recordings let people all over the world enjoy his beautiful piano playing.
