Adolf III of Berg was an important count who lived a long time ago. He was born around 1090 and passed away on October 12, 1152. He was the count of a region called Berg from 1093 to 1132. He was also the count of Hövel and a "Vogt" of Werden. A Vogt was like a special officer who managed land and people for a ruler or a church.
Adolf III was the son of Adolf II of Berg-Hövel and Adelaide of Lauffen.

Adolf III married a woman named Adelheid of Cleves. She might have been the daughter of Dietrich II, who was the count of Cleves.
His Children
Adolf III and Adelheid had several children:
- Adolf IV of Berg: He became the count of Berg and Altena after his father. He lived until at least 1161.
- Eberhard of Berg: He became a monk and later the first abbot of a monastery called Georgenthal. He was born between 1090 and 1095 and died in 1152. He helped convince his brother to give the family's monastery in Altenberg to the Cistercian order in 1133.
- Bruno II of Berg: He became a very important church leader, serving as the Archbishop of Cologne from 1131 to 1137. He died in Italy in 1137.
- Gisela of Berg: She married Sizzo, who was the count of Schwarzburg. She died in 1160.
