Adriana Hölszky (born June 30, 1953) is a talented music teacher, composer, and pianist. She was born in Romania and has lived in Germany since 1976.

Biography

Adriana Hölszky was born in Bucharest, Romania. From 1959 to 1969, she studied piano with Olga Rosca-Berdan at a music school in Bucharest. Later, in 1972, she started studying composition alongside her piano studies at the Bucharest Music Conservatory.

In 1976, Adriana moved to Germany with her family. She continued her music education there. From 1977 to 1980, she studied composition at the Musikhochschule in Stuttgart. She also studied chamber music, which is music for a small group of instruments. During her studies, she played piano in a group called the Trio Lipatti. Her twin sister, Monika Hölszky-Wiedemann, played the violin, and Hertha Rosa-Herseni played the cello.

Adriana also attended important music workshops. She went to the International Mozarteum Summer Academy in 1977 and 1978. From 1978 to 1984, she regularly attended the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music. These courses are famous for exploring new and modern music.

Her career grew steadily. In 1980, she started teaching at the State University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart. She received a special grant in 1983. In 1986, she won first place at a composers' event during the Darmstadt Summer Courses. She also received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture in 1987.

Adriana Hölszky's music became known around the world. In 1992, she led composition workshops in Tokyo and Kyoto, Japan, and at the IRCAM center in Paris, France. Her growing fame was clear when she performed three concerts in Athens, Thessaloniki, and Boston in 1993.

From 1997 to 2000, Hölszky was a professor of composition at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre. Since 2000, she has been a professor of composition at the Mozarteum University of Salzburg in Austria. In 2002, she became a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin.
