Adventure River was a super fun water park that used to be in Memphis, Tennessee. It opened its gates in 1985 and brought joy to many families before it closed in 1998.

What Was Adventure River?

Adventure River was a popular spot for summer fun. It had lots of exciting attractions for everyone. You could splash around in a big wave pool or relax on the sandy beach.

Exciting Rides and Activities

The park was famous for its many water slides. There were 12 different slides to try! The most famous one was called Geronimo. Imagine sliding down that!

Besides the slides, Adventure River also had:

  • A special area with smaller rides just for younger kids.
  • Places to grab tasty snacks and drinks.
  • Live music concerts with local bands.
  • "Dive-in movies" where you could watch a film while floating in the wave pool!

When Was It Open?

Adventure River was a seasonal park. It opened every year for the summer. You could visit from Memorial Day weekend until Labor Day weekend. This meant lots of sunny days for splashing!

Why Did Adventure River Close?

Sadly, Adventure River closed its doors for good in September 1998. In its last few years, it was even known as "Wild Water and Wheels" because they added go-karts for more fun!

There were a few reasons why the park closed:

  • Fewer people were visiting the park.
  • The cost to insure the park was getting very high.
  • The land where the park was located became much more valuable.

What's There Now?

Today, the land where Adventure River once stood is an industrial park. This means it's now home to offices and businesses. Some big companies like Johnson Controls, Terminix, Burger King, and Trugreen have offices there.

Where Was It Located?

Adventure River was easy to find in Memphis, Tennessee. It was located near Whitten Road. You could spot it on the north side of Interstate 40.
