The Afon Twymyn (English: River Twymyn) is a lovely river found in Powys, which is in Mid Wales. It's a smaller river that plays an important role in the local environment.

About the Afon Twymyn

The Afon Twymyn is a natural waterway that flows through beautiful Welsh countryside. Rivers like the Twymyn are essential for many reasons. They provide homes for fish and other wildlife. They also supply fresh water for plants and animals. People often enjoy walking or exploring near rivers.

Where Does It Start?

The Afon Twymyn begins its journey in a very exciting place. Its source is at the Ffrwd Fawr Waterfall. This waterfall is quite tall, dropping about 40 metres (that's like a 13-story building!). It's located near a village called Dylife. This area is also known as the head of the Pennant Valley. Imagine the water rushing down from such a height to start a river!

Its Journey to the Sea

From the Ffrwd Fawr Waterfall, the Afon Twymyn flows downhill. It travels through the scenic Llanbrynmair area. As it continues its path, it gathers more water from smaller streams. Finally, the Afon Twymyn joins a bigger river. This larger river is called the River Dyfi. The two rivers meet upstream of a place known as Cemmaes Road. The River Dyfi then carries the water all the way to the sea.

Why Rivers Matter

Rivers are like the veins of the land. They carry water from higher ground to lower areas. This water is vital for life. Rivers create rich habitats for many creatures. Fish, insects, and birds all depend on rivers. They also help shape the landscape over time. The Afon Twymyn, though small, is a perfect example of a healthy river system.
