Agata Zubel (born in 1978 in Wrocław, Poland) is a talented Polish composer and singer. She creates modern and exciting music.
About Agata Zubel's Life
Agata Zubel went to the Karol Szymanowski High School of Music in Wrocław, where she learned about percussion instruments and music theory. Later, she studied how to write music (called composition) with Jan Wichrowski at the Karol Lipiński University of Music.
She is part of the Youth Circle of the Polish Composers' Union, a group for young music creators. She also received a special scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, which helps artists with their work. Today, she teaches music at the Academy of Music in Wrocław as a full professor.
In 2013, she won a big award from the International Music Council’s International Rostrum of Composers. Her piece called Not I, which she wrote for a singer, instruments, and electronics, was named the best composition. In October 2017, she received the Bronze Medal "Gloria Artis" for her achievements in culture. She is also a regular member of the Polish Composers' Union.
What Kind of Music Does She Write?
Agata Zubel writes many different kinds of music. She creates pieces for orchestras, smaller groups of instruments, and even for solo performers. She often includes singing in her works, sometimes with electronics or unusual instruments.

- A Song about the End of the World (1998) for voice, a person who recites text, and instruments.
- Symphony No. 2 (2005) for 77 performers, which is a very large group!
- Not I (2010), the piece that won her a major award.
- Violin Concerto (2014) for a solo violin and orchestra.
- Cleopatra's Song (2017) for voice and instruments, using words by William Shakespeare.
- Fireworks (2018) for a large symphony orchestra.
- Outside the Realm of Time (2022) for a hologram-soloist and orchestra, which sounds very futuristic!
