Princess Agnes Haakonsdatter of Norway (born 1290, died 1319) was the oldest daughter of King Haakon V of Norway. Her mother was Gro Sigurdsdatter. Agnes was born before her parents were officially married. This meant that even though she was the king's oldest child, her younger sister, Ingeborg Haakonsdatter, became the main heir to the Norwegian throne. However, Agnes and her children would still be next in line if Ingeborg's family line did not continue.

Life of Princess Agnes

In 1302, Agnes married Havtore Jonsson (1275 – 1320). He was a powerful nobleman, known as a Baron. A baron was a high-ranking lord who owned a lot of land and had influence. Havtore was the son of Jon Ivarsson Raud from the Sudreim family in Romerike, Norway.

Havtore Jonsson was an important person in Norway. He was the Governor of Romerike, which meant he was in charge of that area. He also owned many large estates and lands across Norway, including a place called Borregård.

Agnes's Sons and Their Influence

Agnes and Havtore had two sons: Jon Havtoresson and Sigurd Havtoresson. They were often called the "sons of Havtore" (Havtoresønnene). Both sons grew up to be very important figures in Norwegian politics.

Jon Havtoresson (born around 1312, died around 1390) married Birgitta Knutsdotter Lejon. Sigurd Havtoresson (born around 1315, died around 1392) also became influential. They both held powerful positions during the time their half-cousin, King Magnus VII Ericson, ruled. They played a key role in the government and decisions of Norway.
