Agnes Aranka Kaposi, born on October 20, 1932, is a talented engineer and author from Britain and Hungary. She made history in 1992 by becoming only the third woman to be chosen as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering. She was also a respected professor of electrical engineering at London South Bank University. In 2020, she published her book Yellow Star-Red Star. This book shares her experiences growing up in Hungary during a difficult time, including World War II and a period of strict government rule. It also tells the story of her journey to Britain. Agnes Kaposi's Early Life
Agnes Kaposi was born in Hungary. As a child, she went through very tough times, including being in a special area called the Debrecen ghetto and working in labor camps in Austria. She had to work as a child in farms and factories in Austria. After these difficult years, she returned to Hungary, which was then under a strict communist government.
Education and Career Beginnings
In 1956, she graduated from the Technical University of Budapest. She earned a degree in electrical and electronic engineering. She helped build the first TV broadcasting system in Hungary. After a big uprising in Hungary in 1956, she left her home country. She then got permission to work in England. There, she became a researcher in the telecommunications and computer industries.
Contributions to Engineering
Agnes Kaposi continued her education and earned a PhD in Computer Aided Design. This is a field where computers help design things. She worked as a teacher, researcher, and advisor for universities and companies in Britain. One of the companies she worked for was Ericsson, which is known for its mobile technology.
