Aguas Calientes (pronounced Ah-gwas Kal-yen-tess) is a small town and a type of local government area called a municipality in Argentina. It's located in the Jujuy Province, which is a part of northern Argentina. In 2001, about 3,436 people lived here.

Aguas Calientes is nestled about 567 meters (that's about 1,860 feet) above the sea. It's located about 60 kilometers (around 37 miles) south of San Salvador de Jujuy, which is the capital city of the Jujuy Province.

How Were the Mountains Formed?
The mountains around Aguas Calientes have a very old base made of sedimentary rocks. These rocks were formed a long, long time ago during the Paleozoic Era. Over time, new layers of rock formed on top of these older ones.
These rock layers were mostly created in ancient seas. You can find special minerals here, like dolomitic, travertine, and argonite limestones. These are all types of rocks that tell us about the area's watery past.
