About Ahmed Afif
Ahmed Afif was born on Mahé island in the Seychelles. His parents are Abdulla Afif and Aneesa Ali. His family comes from the Maldives. His father, Abdulla Afif, was once the President of the United Suvadive Republic from 1959 to 1963.
Education and Early Career
Ahmed Afif studied at Warwick University. He earned a degree in Maths, Operational Research, Statistics, and Economics. Before becoming a politician, he worked in banking. He was the chairman of NouvoBanq Seychelles and also the Seychelles Savings Bank.
Journey in Politics
Ahmed Afif first became a member of the National Assembly in 2006. He represented the Anse Etoile area. In 2015, he joined the Seychellois Alliance political party. He ran as the running mate for Patrick Pillay in the 2015 presidential election.
In 2016, the Seychellois Alliance joined another party called Linyon Demokratik Seselwa. This new group worked together for the 2016 election. In 2018, Ahmed Afif was chosen to be the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. This means he helped lead the meetings in the parliament.
Becoming Vice President
On October 27, 2020, the Linyon Demokratik Seselwa party won the 2020 Seychellois general election. After their victory, Ahmed Afif was sworn in as the Vice President of the Seychelles. A few days later, on November 4, 2020, he was also given responsibility for Information and Information Communication Technology.
