Early Life and Career
Ahuva Gray is an African-American woman. She grew up in a working-class Baptist family in a neighborhood called Lawndale in Chicago. She is related to a baseball player named Lorenzo Gray.
For 23 years, Ahuva worked as a flight attendant and lived in Los Angeles. During this time, she also became a Baptist minister.
A Journey of Faith
Ahuva started to have questions about Christianity when she found things in the New Testament that she thought didn't quite match up. This made her want to search for a new faith that felt right to her.
She began to study Judaism and felt that the Torah, which is a central text in Judaism, made the most sense to her. In 1996, she decided to leave her role as a Christian minister. She then completed her conversion to become an Orthodox Jew. When she converted, she took the new name Ahuva.
Her Book and Life Today
Ahuva Gray wrote a book about her spiritual journey, which is called My Sister, the Jew. It was published in 2001.
Since the late 1990s, Ahuva Gray has lived in Jerusalem, in a neighborhood called Bayit VeGan.
