Aida Begić is a talented film director and screenwriter from Bosnia and Herzegovina. She was born on May 9, 1976. She is known for making movies that tell important stories.

Aida Begić's Journey in Film

Early Education and First Film

Aida Begić studied Film and Theater Directing. She graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo in the year 2000. Her graduation film was called "The First Death Experience." This short film was shown at over twenty film festivals around the world. It was even part of the official selection at the 54th Cannes Film Festival. The film also won several awards, including Best Short Film at the Ourense Film Festival in Spain.

Teaching and Starting a Company

Besides making films, Aida Begić also teaches. She is an assistant professor of directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Sarajevo. She has also created many commercials and promotional videos. In 2004, she started her own film production company. She founded MAMAFILM with Elma Tataragic.

Award-Winning Feature Films

Aida Begić has directed several feature films that have received international recognition. Her first full-length movie, Snow, won a major award in 2008. It received the Grand Prix at Cannes’ Critics’ Week. She returned to the Cannes Film Festival in 2012 with her film Children of Sarajevo. This movie won a special award called "Special Distinction" in the Un Certain Regard section.

She also contributed to other film projects. These include parts of the movies Do Not Forget Me Istanbul (2010) and Bridges of Sarajevo (2014). Bridges of Sarajevo was also shown at Cannes as a Special Screening. Her most recent feature film, Never Leave Me, was released in 2017.

Recent Activities

In 2025, Aida Begić was chosen to be a jury member. She served on the jury for the CineLink Female Voices award. This award is part of the 31st Sarajevo Film Festival.
