Aimee Boorman (born Aimee Banghart on March 27, 1973) is a famous American gymnastics coach. She is best known for coaching the amazing gymnast Simone Biles. Simone won many world championships and an Olympic gold medal in 2016. Aimee was also the head coach for the USA women's gymnastics team at the Rio Olympics in 2016. As of 2021, she helps coach the Netherlands' women's gymnastics team.
Early Life and Gymnastics
Aimee Boorman grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She started taking gymnastics classes when she was six years old. To help her family, she began coaching gymnastics at age 13.
She went to Lane Technical High School, which had a strong gymnastics program. Aimee was very good at floor exercises. She even won the city championship for that event when she was a freshman.
Aimee realized she would not become an Olympic gymnast herself. However, she loved the sport and wanted to continue as a coach. She went to Northern Illinois University and studied business. While in college, she took a part-time coaching job because she missed gymnastics. She graduated in 1995.
Coaching Career Highlights
After college, Aimee moved to Texas. Her first coaching job was at Cypress Academy of Gymnastics in Houston. In 1996, she started working at Bannon's Gymnastix.
Aimee began coaching Simone Biles in 2005. Simone was only eight years old at the time. Simone became very famous in 2013. That year, she became the U.S. national champion. She also won the world all-around championship in her first year as a senior gymnast.
Aimee was the head coach at Bannon's Gymnastix until 2014. Then, she and Simone moved to a new gymnastics center. This center, called World Champions Centre, was opened by Simone's parents. It is in Spring, Texas. Aimee became the team manager and head coach there.
In 2016, Aimee Boorman was chosen as the head coach for the United States women's gymnastics team. She led the team at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. After the Olympics, she moved to Florida. She became the executive director at Evo Athletics in Sarasota.
Personal Life
Aimee Boorman grew up in Chicago. She now lives in Florida. She married her husband, James, in the year 2000. They have three children together.
