Aisha Burns' Musical Journey

Aisha Burns grew up in San Antonio, Texas, in the United States. She started playing the violin when she was 10 years old. She played in an orchestra all through her school years.

In 2005, Aisha moved to Austin, Texas, to go to the University of Texas. While she was in college, she joined a folk-rock band called Alex Dupree & The Trapdoor Band in 2006. Through this band, she met Rob Lowe. He was one of the people who started the music group Balmorhea. Aisha joined Balmorhea in 2007.

Solo Music and Collaborations

After playing the violin and touring with Balmorhea for six years, Aisha also sang on their album Stranger. Then, in 2013, she released her first solo album called Life in the Midwater. Other musicians helped her on this album. Travis Chapman played bass, and Alex Dupree played a guest solo.

Aisha is also the violinist on folk singer-songwriter Adam Torres' albums. These include Pearls to Swine (2016) and I Came to Sing the Song (2017). She also played on a song for the group Thor & Friends in 2017.

In May 2018, Aisha released her second solo album, Argonauta. This album was called a "stunning composition" by Texas Monthly magazine. Pitchfork called it a "poignant" album. On Argonauta, Aisha's songs explore big life changes. She wrote the string parts for the songs and produced the album herself. Jake Woodruff played guitar, Travis Chapman played bass, Dylan Reick played cello, and Thor Harris played the vibraphone.

Aisha has traveled and performed in many places. She has toured across the U.S. and Europe. She has also played at well-known music festivals. These include SXSW, NXNE, Reeperbahn, and Explore the North festivals.
