Akpor Pius Ewherido was a Nigerian politician. He was born on May 4, 1963, and passed away on June 30, 2013. He became a Senator for the Delta Central Senatorial District in Nigeria in 2011. He ran for this important position with the Democratic People's Party (DPP).

Who Was Akpor Pius Ewherido?
Akpor Pius Ewherido was born in Ughelli, Delta State, Nigeria. He was from the Urhobo ethnic group, which is one of the largest groups in Delta State. He was the third of eight sons in his family.
His Education and Early Life
Akpor Pius Ewherido went to Notre Dame College in Ozoro and Urhobo College in Effurun. After finishing high school, he studied Philosophy at the University of Ife.
After his university studies, he completed his National Youth Service. This is a program where young Nigerians work for a year in different parts of the country. After this, he became a businessman in Warri. He also studied law at the University of Benin and later became a lawyer.
Akpor Pius Ewherido's Political Journey
Akpor Pius Ewherido started his political career during the time of the Nigerian Third Republic. He joined a political group called the United Nigerian Congress Party (UNCP). When the plan for Nigeria to become a full democracy was stopped by Sani Abacha, he left politics for a while and went back to his business.
Joining the People's Democratic Party
In 1998, he joined the People's Democratic Party (PDP). In April 1999, he was chosen to represent the Ughelli South area in the Delta State House of Assembly. This is like a state parliament.
When the Assembly started in June 1999, he was made the Deputy Speaker. This means he helped lead the meetings. From May 2000 to March 2001, he was the leader of the Assembly. He was re-elected in April 2003 and continued to serve as Deputy Speaker until May 2007. In 2006, he tried to become the candidate for Governor of Delta State, but he was not chosen by his party.
Becoming a Senator
Later, Akpor Pius Ewherido left the PDP to join the DPP. He wanted to run for the Senate seat for Delta Central. In the DPP's internal election, he won by a small number of votes.
In the main election in April 2011, he won with 102,313 votes. This was more than his opponent from the PDP, who received 85,365 votes. This victory made him a Senator for the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
