Akta-Vite facts for kids
Akta-Vite is a popular chocolate powder you can mix with milk or plant milk. It's special because it doesn't have any milk in it. This means it's great for people who can't drink milk (lactose intolerant) or choose not to have dairy. Akta-Vite was first made in 1943 by George Nicholas in Chadstone, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. At first, it was sold in pharmacies as a special health boost. Today, the Nicholas family still owns and makes Akta-Vite.
The Story of Akta-Vite
How it Started
Akta-Vite was created by George Nicholas. His family, including his brother Alfred, became very successful. They made a pain reliever called Aspro. This happened after a company called Bayer lost its right to sell aspirin in Australia during the First World War.
Their success allowed them to create other health products. Akta-Vite was one of these new products. In the 1940s, it was harder to make vitamins in factories. So, Akta-Vite used natural ingredients. For example, it got vitamin A from shark livers.
Akta-Vite Around the World
In the 1950s, Akta-Vite was sent to countries in Southeast Asia. It became very popular in Thailand. People there knew it as the chocolate powder sold in an orange tin can.
Who Owns Akta-Vite?
The Akta-Vite brand was sold to a company called Sara Lee Corporation in 1984. But in 2016, the Nicholas family bought it back. This means the family who first created Akta-Vite now owns it again.
