Alfred Langston Reavis (born May 11, 1893 – died August 24, 1950) was an American baseball player. He was a pitcher in the Negro leagues during the 1920s. These leagues were professional baseball organizations for African American players. They existed when Black athletes were not allowed to play in Major League Baseball.
Who Was Al Reavis?
Al Reavis was born in Brunswick, Virginia. He grew up there before starting his baseball career. He also attended the Virginia Normal & Industrial Institute. This school is now known as Virginia State University.
Playing Baseball
Reavis played for two different teams in the Negro leagues. In 1920, he joined the Lincoln Giants. This team was based in New York City. They were one of the most famous teams in the Negro leagues.
The next year, in 1921, Reavis played for two teams. He started the season with the Lincoln Giants again. Later that same year, he also played for the Bacharach Giants. This team was from Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Later Life
Al Reavis passed away in New Rochelle, New York. He was 57 years old when he died in 1950. His time playing in the Negro leagues helped shape baseball history.
