Alain Jessua (born January 16, 1932 – died November 30, 2017) was a talented French movie director and screenwriter. He was born in Évreux, France. Jessua directed ten movies during his career, from 1956 to 1997.

Early Life and Start in Film

Alain Jessua began his journey in the film industry as an assistant director. This role allowed him to learn from some of the best filmmakers of his time. He worked alongside famous directors like Jacques Becker on the movie Casque d'or. He also assisted Max Ophüls on films such as Madame de... and Lola Montès. Another notable director he worked with was Marcel Carné on the movie Wasteland. These experiences helped him develop his own unique style as a director.

Directing His Own Movies

After gaining valuable experience, Alain Jessua started directing his own films. He made a total of ten movies. One of his most well-known films is Jeu de massacre, which means "Killing Game" in English. This movie was very successful and was shown at the 1967 Cannes Film Festival. At this important film festival, Jeu de massacre won the award for Best Screenplay. This award recognized the excellent story and writing of the film.

Later Years

Alain Jessua continued to direct movies until 1997. He passed away on November 30, 2017, at the age of 85. He is remembered for his contributions to French cinema as both a director and a screenwriter.
