The Alden Park Towers, also known as Alden Towers, is a large apartment building in Detroit, Michigan. It is located at 8100 East Jefferson Avenue. This historic building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
What Does Alden Park Towers Look Like?
The Alden Park Towers is made up of four buildings. Each building has eight stories. They are built with red bricks and have stone decorations.
All four buildings are connected on the first floor. This area used to have shops like a grocery store and a laundry. The outside of the buildings has many fancy details. There are bay windows that stick out from the ground all the way to the roof.
Look up at the roofline! You'll see special stone decorations that look like the top of a castle wall. This unique design helps these apartments stand out in Detroit. The buildings first had 352 apartments. Now, they have 389 apartments.
The Story of Alden Park Towers
The Alden Park Towers were built in 1922. They were first called the Berman Apartments. The builders chose this spot south of Jefferson Avenue. They wanted to use the beautiful views of the Detroit River. At that time, it was one of the few very large apartment buildings in Detroit.
In 2012, a company called Triton Properties bought the Alden Park Towers. It is located on Detroit's "Gold Coast," which is the riverfront area of East Jefferson. The company paid $2 million for the property.
After buying it, Triton Properties started a big renovation project. They spent over $5 million to update all 382 apartments. They also improved the common areas. This included a brand-new main lobby with a large fireplace. A new fitness center was added with modern equipment and TVs. The entire building also got free Wi-Fi for residents.
The main lobby was designed to look like a stylish, modern hotel lobby. The area along the riverfront was also greatly improved. All the renovation work was finished by early 2015.
