Aleec Harris's Early Running Days
Aleec Harris grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. When he was in high school, he was a state champion in track and field. This means he was the best in Georgia for his event!
College Athletics
After high school, Aleec went to college to continue his running career. He competed for Barton Community College and later for the USC Trojans.
Winning in College
While at Barton Community College, Aleec became a champion in the 110 meter hurdles. This was at the NJCAA championships, which are big competitions for junior colleges.
In 2014, he did very well at the NCAA championships, which are for bigger universities.
- At the indoor championships, he finished fifth in the 60 meter hurdles.
- At the outdoor championships, he was the runner-up in the 110 meter hurdles. This race was so close that they needed a "photo finish" to see who won!
Becoming a National Champion
Aleec Harris continued to compete at a high level after college.
USA Championships
In 2014, he finished fourth in the 110 meter hurdles at the 2014 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Then, in 2015, Aleec won a big national title! He became the senior national champion in the 60 meter hurdles at the 2015 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Qualifying for World Events
At the 2017 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Aleec Harris won the 110 meter hurdles race. He beat other famous hurdlers like Aries Merritt and Devon Allen.
Usually, the top three runners get to go to the World Championships. However, the winner of the previous World Championships, David Oliver, automatically got a spot. Because of this, Aleec Harris earned the final spot for his event at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics. This was a huge achievement for him!
