Alejandra Marina Oliveras (born March 20, 1978 – died July 28, 2025) was a famous Argentine professional boxer. She was known by her nickname "La Locomotora", which means "The Locomotive". She competed in boxing from 2006 to 2015.
Alejandra made history by winning world championships in four different weight categories. These included titles from important boxing organizations like the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), and World Boxing Organization (WBO). Besides boxing, Alejandra was a strong supporter of fairness for women. She also worked hard to help women's boxing grow. She was honored in the Latin American Boxing Hall of Fame in 2024.

Her Life and Boxing Journey
Alejandra Oliveras was born in El Carmen, Jujuy, Argentina, on March 20, 1978. She grew up in a modest family with six brothers and sisters. After finishing elementary school, she started working on a farm. Alejandra began boxing to learn how to protect herself and become stronger.
She worked many different jobs. Later, she found work at a local radio station, reading the news. One day, she read a story about Mike Tyson, a boxer she really looked up to. On the radio, she said, "I wish I could be a boxer too!" A former boxer heard her and called the station. Soon after, a boxing event was set up for her in her town.
Becoming a Champion
Alejandra started her professional boxing career on August 12, 2005. Her first fight was a win by knockout. Less than a year later, on May 20, 2006, she won her first big international title. She became the World Boxing Council (WBC) super bantamweight world champion. She won this title in Mexico against Jackie Nava. Later that year, she successfully defended her title in Rosario against Anays Gutiérrez Carrillo. She fought a tough match against "La Dama del Ring" (The Lady of the Ring).
Winning More Titles
Alejandra faced her first loss on December 4, 2008. Marcela ‘La Tigresa’ Acuña won her title at Luna Park Stadium. But Alejandra kept fighting and winning. On January 5, 2012, she won the World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight world title. She won this title by knockout against Jessica Villafranca. She defended this featherweight title five times. On April 19, 2013, she won against Calixta Silgado by knockout. Later that year, on October 11, 2013, she won another WBC title, the light welterweight title.
End of Her Boxing Career
Alejandra lost her WBC light welterweight title on November 15, 2014. She was defeated by Erica Farias in a close decision. After this fight, she continued to box for a few more years. She had two more wins in 2015 and 2017. Alejandra finished her boxing career with an impressive record. She had 33 wins, with 16 of them by knockout. She also had 2 draws and only 3 losses. Her boxing style was known for being strong and attacking. In 2024, Alejandra was honored for her amazing career. She was inducted into the Latin American Boxing Hall of Fame.
Helping Her Community
Alejandra was not just a boxer; she was also a community leader. She strongly supported women's boxing. She also worked to make sure women were treated fairly in sports. Alejandra started "Team Locomotora," her own gym. This gym offered free boxing classes to young people who couldn't afford them. It was located in Santó Tomé, Santa Fe. Public Service
Alejandra also wanted to help her community through public service. She ran for a position in the Argentine Congress in 2021. She wanted to represent her home province of Santa Fe. Although she did not win that election, she continued to be involved. She later worked with government officials to help with sports safety. In 2025, Alejandra ran for another important role. She sought to join a group that would help write a new constitution for Santa Fe Province. She received many votes, showing how much people trusted her.
Personal Life
Alejandra was a mother to two sons, Alejandro and Alexis. Both of her sons followed in her footsteps. They became gym instructors and worked alongside her.
Her Passing
On July 14, 2025, Alejandra became very ill and was hospitalized in Santa Fe, Argentina. This was the same day she was supposed to start an important new role in public service. Sadly, she passed away fourteen days later, on July 28, 2025. She was 47 years old.
