In 2012, the bakery faced a challenge and filed for bankruptcy. However, it was able to keep its doors open and continued to serve its customers. Phil Alessi, the owner who helped the bakery grow so much, passed away in May 2018. Even after these events, Alessi Bakery remains a popular place for people in Tampa to enjoy fresh baked goods and meals.
