Alexander Trent Tyus (born January 8, 1988) is a professional basketball player from America and Israel. He plays for Pallacanestro Varese in Italy's top basketball league. Alex is known for being a strong player near the basket and a great rebounder. He is 2.03 meters (6 feet 8 inches) tall. In 2018, he was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the Israeli League Finals. Since he is also an Israeli citizen, he has played for the Israeli national basketball team.

Early Life and College Basketball
High School Hoops
Alex Tyus started his high school basketball journey in St. Louis. For his first two years, he played at Hazelwood Central High School. Later, he moved to Harmony Prep for his last two years. He even helped Harmony Prep reach the national championship game for prep schools in 2006.
Playing for the Florida Gators
After high school, Alex went to the University of Florida. He played college basketball there from 2007 to 2011. He was part of the Florida Gators team. His coach was Billy Donovan. Alex helped the Gators reach the NCAA Tournament twice.
In 2011, he played a big role in the Gators' run to the Elite Eight. He scored 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a key win. This win was against the BYU Cougars in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. By 2012, Alex had scored 1,333 points in his college career. This placed him 22nd in his school's history.
Alex Tyus's Professional Career
Starting in Israel: Maccabi Ashdod (2011–2012)
After college, Alex Tyus began his professional basketball journey. On June 28, 2011, he joined the Israeli team Maccabi Ashdod. This was his first professional team.
Moving to Italy: Pallacanestro Cantù (2012–2013)
On July 12, 2012, Alex signed with an Italian team, Pallacanestro Cantù. Here, he got to play in the EuroLeague for the first time. The EuroLeague is one of the biggest basketball competitions in Europe.
First Time with Maccabi Tel Aviv (2013–2015)
On July 1, 2013, Alex joined Maccabi Tel Aviv for two years. He played a huge part in their success. In April 2014, he was named the EuroLeague MVP of the Month. He helped Maccabi reach the EuroLeague Final Four. They went on to win the EuroLeague championship that year!
Playing in Turkey: Anadolu Efes (2015–2016)
On July 21, 2015, Alex signed a one-year deal with Anadolu Efes, a team in Turkey. He played 24 EuroLeague games with them. He averaged about 5.9 points and 3 rebounds per game.
Joining Galatasaray (2016–2017)
On July 12, 2016, Alex signed another one-year contract. This time, it was with Galatasaray, another Turkish team.
Back to Maccabi Tel Aviv (2017–2019)
On June 22, 2017, Alex Tyus returned to Maccabi Tel Aviv. He signed a two-year contract for his second time with the team.
In May 2018, Alex had a great game. He scored 20 points and grabbed five rebounds. This helped Maccabi win against Bnei Herzliya. In June 2018, he was named to the All-Israeli League Second Team. Later that month, he led Maccabi Tel Aviv to win the 2018 Israeli League Championship. They beat Hapoel Holon 95–75. After this big win, Alex was named the Finals MVP.
On July 25, 2018, Alex signed to stay with Maccabi for another year. In January 2019, he was named the EuroLeague MVP of the Month again! He averaged 11.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in five games. On March 28, 2019, he scored a career-high 20 points in a EuroLeague game. This was against Gran Canaria. Alex helped Maccabi win the 2019 Israeli League Championship again. This was his second straight Israeli League title.
Playing for UNICS Kazan (2019–2020)
On July 13, 2019, Alex signed a contract with UNICS Kazan. This team plays in the VTB United League in Russia. He averaged 10.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game there.
Another Stint with Galatasaray (2020)
On November 4, 2020, Alex signed with Galatasaray for a second time.
Joining Real Madrid (2020–2021)
On December 29, 2020, he signed with Real Madrid. This is a famous team in Spain's top league, the Liga ACB. On July 1, 2021, Alex left the Spanish club.
Playing for Pınar Karşıyaka (2021–2022)
On November 8, 2021, Alex signed with Pınar Karşıyaka. This team plays in Turkey's Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL) and the Basketball Champions League (BCL). He played 33 games for them, starting 23 times. He averaged 5.8 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
Time with ASVEL (2022–2023)
On October 27, 2022, he signed with ASVEL Basket in France's LNB Pro A league. He played 61 games and averaged 5.0 points and 4.3 rebounds.

On November 5, 2024, Alex signed with Pallacanestro Varese. This is his current team in Italy's Lega Basket Serie A (LBA).
National Team Career
Alex Tyus has also played for his country. He was a member of the senior Israeli national basketball team. He played in the 2013 EuroBasket tournament.
Personal Life
While in college, Alex learned about Judaism from his roommate. In 2011, Alex and his wife, Alli Cecchini, both converted to Judaism. Alli was also a college athlete, playing volleyball for the Florida Gators. She has Jewish family roots.
On June 10, 2012, Alex Tyus received an Israeli passport. This made him an Israeli citizen.

EuroLeague Performance
Alex Tyus has played many seasons in the EuroLeague, one of Europe's top basketball competitions. He even won the EuroLeague championship in the 2013–14 season with Maccabi Tel Aviv. He is known for his strong rebounding and efficient scoring near the basket.
College Performance
During his four years at the University of Florida, Alex Tyus was a consistent player. He improved each season and became a key part of the Gators' team. He was a strong rebounder and scorer throughout his college career.
