Early Life and Family
Alexander Rigby was born in 1620. His father, also named Alexander Rigby, lived in a place called Middleton, near Preston in Lancashire. His mother was Lucy Legh from Manchester.
When his father passed away in 1650, young Alexander took over the family home and estate in Middleton.
Becoming a Member of Parliament
In 1659, Alexander Rigby was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area of Lancashire. This happened during a time called the Third Protectorate Parliament.
The next year, in April 1660, he was elected again as an MP. This time, he represented the town of Preston in a special meeting called the Convention Parliament.
His Time in Parliament
Even though he was elected for Preston, Alexander Rigby did not keep his seat for long. His election was challenged by someone else. After a review, he was removed from his position as an MP. This means his election was overturned.
Later Life
Alexander Rigby lived to be 73 years old. He passed away in February 1694 and was buried on March 4, 1694.
